Fabrics

Fabrics used in our stage drapes include:

• Wools drape
• Cotton velvet
• Extra wide loom seamless gauzes
• Extra wide loom seamless filled-cloth for cycloramas

All fabrics used by Stagecraft are flame retardant, and all curtains have labels which certify their compliance with fire safety regulations.

Curtain construction

Stage drapes and curtains cover three principal applications:

• Masking
  Usually black drapes arranged to hide areas above and on the sides of the stage from the audiences' view. Typically flat sewn black wool which should "disappear".
• Scenic effects
  Seamless gauze or opaque cycloramas used in conjunction with lighting to produce theatrical illusions. Typically, larger than the size of the proscenium opening and stretched to avoid any wrinkles and shadows.
• Presentation
  House Curtains, valances and other curtains use as stage "dressing". Typically coloured velvet and gathered to produce a sumptu- ous appearance.
